And then we went to Madrid to spend time with Pepe, Dana & the Girls

Segovia, freezing cold, snowing in the mountains and all the girls wore sandals, SO smart

Mom, Me, Dad & Pepe

We all piled into a VW bus and drove north, headed to Dana and Pepe's beach house in Somo for a few days...

Dinner at Melly in Somo:

Fish pudding, don't judge it until you try it
I learned how to make a similar dish,  Hake Pudding, in San Sebastian at the cooking school

Smoked Salmon from the Canary Island, so buttery and delicious
Not on the menu but Juan brought it to the table for us, it's nice when your cousin is friends with the owner :)

Green Peppers stuffed with Bacalao (salt cod) smothered in an incredible sauce

Tomato and Mozzarella Salad and Fried Anchovies, really BIG anchovies!

Dessert = CHEESE baked and bubbly with two different homemade jams

Tomato Jam and Red Onion Jam made by Juan's wife

The Cheese, Juan's sister (also our server) brought this out so we could see what we were eating

The wine. We started with a Rioja then Juan sent this out, which had a much more interesting flavor than a Rioja, I liked it a lot, it's one of my new favorite wines :)

Then we visited some small mountain towns:

Some people on the Pilgrimage, Camino de Santiago

I love antiques

Mom, Me, Dad & Carla

Where we ate lunch, a tiny hunting town in the mountains

It was freezing cold, rainy, and their specialty, bean stew, was hot and warmed us up!

Then we had some steak, three different cuts with Blue Cheese Sauce and fried potatoes

We shared two desserts, Chocolate Cake

And a warm cheese tart with raspberry sauce

Everyone minus Emma who was taking the photo
Carla, Maria, Me, Mom, Dana, Dad & Pepe

Then we saw a seal in Santander

And a Penguin

And replicas of the boats Christopher Columbus sailed to the New World, they're really small!
Another Dinner at Juan's:
Calamari

Tomatoes with Fresh Garlic
Chicken dish with a delicious spiced suace

Me and Juan, he was signing a book of his poetry for me. He's a chef and poet. Then he played a song in my honor, it was quite the night.

Then we were back in Madrid:

Tasting "Gravy Balls" as Charla would call them, more commonly knows as coquettes, in the Market in Madrid.

The Market Scene, we drank wine and browsed
